Chhouk Kranhas to purchase thirteen pumps

We have made our first sale of pumps to a village! Thirteen farmers in Chhouk Kranhas, located about 43 miles west of Phnom Penh, have agreed to purchase hip pumps. Many other people in the village expressed interest in buying pumps at a future date. Our colleague in Cambodia told us: “When they saw the Hip Pump, they felt very excited, because it is convenient to take it wherever they want–even a child can carry it.”

Portability is important because their fields are over two miles away from their homes. The villagers currently must carry water to the fields in buckets. We are thrilled to know that the pumps will relieve them of this grueling task.

Investing in the pumps was a careful and courageous decision for these people. The pumps cost $45, no small amount of money for them. We are offering financing of that amount at 6% interest, to be repaid in one year.

The farmers signed on after seeing how well the pumps worked with both ponds and dams, the sources they use to irrigate their fields. The village’s major crops are cucumbers and watermelons.

In addition, the pumps can be used with the wells the villagers depend on for water for household purposes.
