KickStart’s Super MoneyMaker Pump
The Super MoneyMaker Pump has been tested for several years by tens of thousands of African farmers working with KickStart. It has been proven to work for a variety of crops and is easy to operate, reliable and durable.
The Super MoneyMaker is a two-cylinder treadle pump used to pump water from hand-dug wells, rivers, streams, lakes and ponds. It is ideal for sprinkler irrigation, filling overhead water tanks or for use with nozzles and sprays attached to the end of a delivery hose. It can irrigate up to two acres of land.
The pump has been successfully tested in the villages where we work: In Chhouk Kranhas, at watermelon and cucumber farms; in Phum Thom, at watermelon, chili pepper and mushroom farms. In Svay Khleang, the pump worked well with both a dug and drilled well, a river and a pond, although more effort was required with deeper wells.
The pump uses human energy and gravity to pump water; it does not use electricity or petroleum, which most farmers do not have and cannot afford. It is designed to last for years, comes with a one-year manufacturer’s guarantee, does not require any tools for disassembly or repair and is easily portable. All of the pipes and hoses that a farmer might need to use the Super MoneyMaker can be bought locally.
The Super MoneyMaker can draw water up from 23 feet (7m), can push water along flat ground as far as 656 feet (200m), can produce more than 600 gallons (2270 L) per hour and has a total pumping head of 46 feet (14m). It weighs 21kg, a little over 46 pounds.
BB2C’s Cambodian Pump

BB2C’s engineers are hard at work developing a less expensive, Cambodian-made pump that uses materials easily available in Cambodia and does not need to be imported. As of September 2011, we have a working pump prototype and are working to bring its cost down to $50. Check back for updates on our progress in the coming months!
